Layer 3: Network
The Network Layer is responsible for packet forwarding and routing through intermediate routers.
Key Points
- Handles addressing and routing of data packets
- Manages traffic control and packet sequencing
- Responsible for logical addressing (e.g., IP addresses)
- Determines the best path for data transmission
- Handles packet fragmentation and reassembly
- Implements congestion control in network traffic

Attacks
IP Spoofing: Forging the source IP address in IP packets to impersonate another system or hide the true source of an attack.
ICMP Attacks: Misusing ICMP messages for reconnaissance (e.g., ping sweeps) or denial of service (e.g., ICMP flood).
Routing Attacks: Manipulating routing protocols to redirect traffic, potentially leading to man-in-the-middle attacks or network disruption.
